Taipei: Goin’ shrimp fishin’
I had heard of shrimp fishing before, but never done it. Tempted when a friend brought up the idea, we ended up going to a local shrimp fishing joint.
The concept is quickly explained: there is a little indoor pond, you get a rod and bait and then start fishing for shrimp. There is an hourly refill of shrimp into the pond, so likely you’ll be busy for the first 20 minutes or so, reeling in shrimp after shrimp. After that it slows down quickly until the next refill. Luckily they also sell beer, so even after the first 20 minutes we didn’t get bored. Some of the regular visitors took things very seriously, evident by the professional mini-rods that they brought along.
After you have finished, they will throw the shrimps on the grill for you and you get to choose from a couple of cooking styles. Along with a couple of beers that we had with the locals, this made for a very pleasant evening. Not something I would take a first date to, but worth the experience once when going with some friends.
